Hand Therapy

Hand therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper limb, which includes the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder girdle. As stated by ASHT, specialized assessment skills, planning and treatment, permit the hand therapist to provide therapeutic intervention to prevent dysfunction, restore function and/or reverse the progression of pathology.

Another major service distinguishing AOPT is splinting. Through creativity in splinting fabrication, our hand therapists are able to accommodate specific needs for multiple diagnoses including: fractures, tendon and nerve injuries, repetitive stress and overuse syndromes, crush injuries, joint replacements, tendon repair and transfers, tendonitis, sprains, wound care, and chronic pain.
